B.Ed in the teaching subject is mandatory
Proficiency in English language is a must.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I stay beyond 5 years on a J1 vis?
No. you have to return to your home country at the end of the program.
2. Can I take my family with me?
Yes, you can take your spouse and two children under the age of 21 years.
3. Can my spouse work in the United States?
Yes, after obtaining work authorization document the spouse can work.
4. What will be my salary in the U.S. School?
Salary depends upon the years of experience and qualifications.
5. Do I get the same salary as the local American teacher?
Yes, exchange teacher will get the same salary as an American teacher.
6. Do I have to pay taxes while on a J1 visa?
For the first two calendar years you are exempt from state and federal taxes as per the tax treaty between India and the U.S. but after that you will be paying all the taxes.
7. Do I have to pay taxes while on a H1B visa?
Yes, you will be paying all the taxes from the first year itself.
8. Will the host school provide any health insurance?
They will but the teacher has to pay for it.
9. Do I have to take any exam for teacher certification to teach in the United States?
Some states provide temporary certification to the visiting teachers without any exam and in some states you will need to take the exam within one year.
10. Will the host school provide food and accommodation to the visiting teacher?
No, the teacher has to pay for the food and accommodation.
11. After returning from the U.S. at the end of the J1 program how many years do I need to wait to go back again?
You will have to wait for a minimum of two years to apply again for a J1 visa.
12. Can I visit my home country during summer vacation?
Yes, the teacher can visit their home country during any break by informing the J1 sponsor and obtaining the travel validation.
